The partnership allows X users to tap a ticker symbol, such as $BTC or $AAPL, which displays live charts and related posts, then redirects them to Webull to log in and trade. The model, first tested in 2023 with eToro, now supports multiple brokers and platforms, turning tickers into a distribution channel for financial activity.
How the Cashtag System Works
When users search for or post a ticker symbol on X, the platform automatically suggests matching assets. Tapping a Cashtag displays the asset’s live price chart alongside posts mentioning it, and provides links to partner brokers such as Webull, Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Coinbase, Kraken, and Gemini, providing users with multiple options for executing trades. Transactions do not occur directly within X; users are redirected to the partner platform to complete trades after logging in or registering for an account.
The current program, launched in the US on September 15, expands from a single-provider model to multiple brokers. Webull joined the initiative two weeks after the program’s start, offering another pathway from discussion to trade. X’s data, including sentiment and trending narratives, could eventually be integrated into Webull’s ecosystem, potentially enhancing the platform’s analytical capabilities, though no analytics product or launch date was disclosed in the announcement.
Webull’s Role and User Base
Webull provides access to US stocks, ETFs, options, futures, fractional shares, and digital assets through a multi-entity structure. At the end of June, it reported 28.2 million registered users, 5.13 million funded accounts, and $28.5 billion in customer assets. The platform also offers market data, live feeds, educational content, and an active trading community. Under the Cashtag model, existing users are redirected to the platform to log in and prepare transactions, while new users must open accounts and complete onboarding checks.
Crypto trading occurs through Webull Pay LLC, which operates as a separate entity from its securities brokerage divisions. This means asset availability through Cashtag links varies by instrument, location, and account eligibility. Investment decisions and transactions are executed via the brokerage, subject to its standard product rules, jurisdictional limits, and risk requirements. The partnership follows Webull’s recent expansion of its AI assistant, which can research markets and draft orders across asset classes, though final approval remains within the brokerage environment, ensuring user control over trades.
The integration shortens the path from information to proposed transactions but keeps execution within Webull’s control. This raises considerations around viral content, sentiment manipulation, and impulsive trading when assets gain traction online. Both Webull and X have not disclosed commercial terms, launch timelines for the platform’s links, referral volumes, or international availability beyond the US.
